RELEASE: Libertarians Establish Chapter in Mesa County — First Libertarian Party chapter in Mesa!

ORCHARD MESA — Libertarians gathered yesterday (Friday, January 15, 2021) evening to form a new affiliate (chapter) of the Libertarian Party.

Registered Libertarian voters in attendance adopted bylaws and elected a basic slate of officers, including a chair, treasurer, and affiliate representative to the state party.

Members cited a range of thoughts among their reasons for wanting to start the group.

“After the last several years of watching two major parties oppose each other just to oppose each other, without regard to the freedom of the American people I decided to seek out a better option,” said Whitewater resident Josh Drews. “The Libertarian Party is the only one that actually believes that people should be free to make the right decisions for themselves.”

JB Phillips, a resident of the Alpine Meadows neighborhood in Grand Junction, said he has been disappointed with the lack of grassroots involvement in decisions made far away, with the concerns of individuals being ignored by the mainstream.

“With all the events happening at the national level that left many feeling like all they could do was watch, becoming part of a local Libertarian party startup where people can take action and do something impacting felt like the most timely and useful step to take,” he said.

Rayne Gardner cited an increasingly chaotic and tribalistic political climate. “I’m inspired by grassroots efforts from local friends and neighbors to promote principled governance that honors the timeless tradition of liberty,” said the resident of the Fruitvale neighborhood in Grand Junction.

“I’ve believed in libertarian principles for years, but never thought the party had enough traction to put my support behind it. I finally realized that the only way the Libertarian Party will ever gain traction is if passionate voters make the switch” said Orchard Mesa resident Robert Ballard.

The group intends to seek Precinct Captains for as many precincts as possible, who will then have a vote on the chapter’s Board.

“We hope to participate in outreach activities here in the County going forward. We invite anyone who sees our information tables at local events to stop in and say ‘hello,'” said chairman Phillips.

“And of course if you’re ‘done’ with the Democrat/Republican dumpster fires that have been scalding the nation since forever but have become horrid sideshows of how not to behave, then consider re-registering as a Libertarian and come join us,” said Phillips.

The Libertarian Party is the third largest political party in the United States, founded in 1971. Libertarians strongly oppose any government interference into their personal, family, and business decisions. They believe all Americans should be free to live their lives and pursue their interests as they see fit as long as they do no harm to another.
