LPCO wants county commissioners to open up Colorado

For Immediate Release

4/21/2020

The Libertarian Party of Colorado is calling on all Colorado county commissioners to take the necessary measures to open their counties for business. Communities are far more aware of their needs and what is and isn’t essential for their citizens than a state or federal government could ever be. It is the position of the Libertarian Party of Colorado that those individuals who are immune compromised should maintain standards which help to mitigate any damage from the COVID-19 virus, and those who are healthy and capable of returning to normal life should do so immediately.

With many tourist reliant counties looking at the possibility of unemployment over 50%, it is of the utmost importance that government officials set aside their fear, step out of the way, and allow private markets to function as they were intended; to direct goods and services to where they are needed most. To help this phenomenon occur in the most efficient manner possible, it is imperative that all levels of government implement IMMEDIATE pay cuts for all administrative employees and discontinue all non-essential services. It is wholly immoral for government to protect their own while the rest of society is placed in a position where financial security is in even greater peril than in the crash of 2008.

It is the position of the Libertarian Party of Colorado and its candidates that government officials should take a 20% cut in pay in order to help share the burden with those who they serve. Libertarians running for county commissioner roles throughout the state have signed onto this pledge, and we ask that currently elected officials take our lead and implement these cuts immediately.
