Libertarian Party of Colorado, Position on Homeless

It has to come to our attention through a registered Libertarian member in Colorado, that some homeless individuals who have set up camp at Cherry Creek State Park, have been harassed, and had their possessions STOLEN by two people who have publicly posted about this crime on the Arapahoe Tea Party Facebook page.

We would like to reiterate the portion of our platform stating that “Individuals own their bodies and have rights over them that other individuals, groups, and governments may not violate”, and that under no circumstances do we support the taking of property from an individual. Allowing an individual to exist in a public space, is a basic right; and the rights of these homeless individuals have been violated, in a vile, and criminal way.

Party member, Regan Benson, has had numerous communications with both park officials, and local law enforcement agencies; with both stating that under no circumstances, is there an exception in the equal application of rights to a person, homeless, or not. In the taking of the personal property, charges could be filed against those individuals who openly admitted it on the above mentioned Tea Party page.

The Libertarian Party of Colorado would like to help those who are down on their luck, and are in need of a helping hand. Our December 17th Festivus party will be an opportunity for attendees to bring in a donation of anything that will provide warmth for the homeless. Hats, gloves, coats, blankets, sleeping bags, et al. Please bring your donation, and if you can’t make the event; please contact Stacy Petty at the above email address, and she will help you get your donation in the hands of those in need during these cold, winter months.
