Recruiting Candidates for 2026 Elections

In November the Colorado Polling Institute surveyed voters statewide. 77% of the people polled stated that a third party is needed because the Republicans and Democrats do not do an adequate job of representing the American people. Of the people who want a third party, 65% want the third party to be more moderate, 20% want the third party to be more liberal and 15% want the third party to be more conservative than the other two parties.

What does this mean? We believe that 2026 will be a good year for Libertarian candidates in Colorado as voters will be looking for better options. We encourage you to consider running for office in 2026.

We are in the process of recruiting candidates for federal, state, and county office. Depending upon your time and commitment, there are different types of campaigns you can run. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Joe Johnson, our Campaigns Director. You may email him at Joe Johnson.

If you are interested in being a candidate, here are some things to consider:

  • You can be nominated at our 2026 State Convention on April 18, so petitioning is not required.
  • State statute requires candidates to be affiliated with the political party no later than the first business day of January 2026. Please confirm your voter registration at Check your voter registration. If you need to make a correction to your voter registration or address, you can do so by clicking on the “Edit” button near the bottom of the screen.
  • Our party Bylaws require a candidate to be a sustaining member before January 1, 2026.

To be a sustaining member of the LPCO, you must be registered Libertarian and either be a lifetime member of the National Libertarian Party or have donated a one-time minimum amount of $25.00 to LPCO in the past year. The $25 donation needs to be renewed annually to maintain your sustainable member status. Renew or become a sustaining member of LPCO at Sustaining Membership

If being a candidate is not in your wheelhouse, we still encourage you to become a sustaining member so you are eligible to vote at the 2026 State Convention and support the candidates.
