First Signer for LPCO 2026 Federal Candidate Pledge in CD3

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Libertarian Party of Colorado Announces Hope Scheppelman Signs the Federal Candidate Pledge for Liberty

Denver, CO – September 11, 2025 – The Libertarian Party of Colorado (LPCO) proudly welcomes Hope Scheppelman, candidate for the 3rd U.S. Congressional District of Colorado, as the first official signer of the 2026 Federal Candidate Pledge for Liberty. By signing this pledge, Scheppelman has committed to advancing core libertarian principles in Washington, D.C., including reducing the size of government, protecting constitutional rights, and defending the freedoms of all Coloradans.

“Like all great American patriots, the Libertarian Party of Colorado respects and follows our US Constitution and upholds the supremacy of individual freedom.” Scheppelman said “If elected to congress, I will work hard everyday to advance our shared values against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

The Liberty Pledge is a cornerstone of LPCO’s candidate accountability and spoiler prevention strategy. Historically, it has served as both a clear statement of values and a rallying point for Libertarian voters across the state. Candidates who sign it commit themselves to substantive policy positions—such as repealing the income tax, abolishing the Department of Education, protecting internet freedom, opposing foreign wars, and defending whistleblowers like Edward Snowden.

“The Liberty Pledge has a long record of uniting Liberty candidates around real solutions that empower individuals and limit government overreach,” said LPCO Chair Hannah Goodman. “Hope Scheppelman’s signature reflects not only a commitment to these principles, but also the growing momentum of the Libertarian movement in Colorado heading into the 2026 midterms.”

The Libertarian Party of Colorado views the 2026 midterm elections as a pivotal opportunity to expand liberty in both Congress and local government. With growing voter frustration at establishment politics, LPCO leadership believes that pledges like this one demonstrate the seriousness and credibility of Libertarian candidates who are ready to fight for freedom. The CD3 incumbent, Representative Jeff Hurd, was invited to sign the 2024 pledge before his election but declined. Whether he will follow Hope’s leadership and sign the 2026 pledge is unknown.

LPCO Executive Director James Wiley noted, after receiving the signed copy of the pledge, “When Scheppelman wins her primary against Jeff Hurd the Libertarian Candidate for CD3 will have good reason to withdraw from the ballot and endorse Scheppelman. They will have to decide if being a spoiler achieves the best outcome for Liberty or not.”

The Libertarian Party of Colorado will continue to highlight and support candidates who take the Liberty Pledge, underscoring its commitment to building a freer, more prosperous future for all Coloradans.
