Statewide Coalition Calls For State Sanctuary for Assange
LITTLETON – The Libertarian Party of Colorado and Denver Action to Free Assange joined together this week to express their mutual outrage at the decision of a UK high court to extradite Julian Assange to the United States.
“At more enlightened points in western history, these charges would have been dropped and Assange would be free,” said Wayne Harlos, chair of the Libertarian Party of Colorado.
“It is public knowledge that the CIA spied on Mr. Assange and plotted to murder him,” said Kendra Christian, the founder and president of the Denver Action to Free Assange group.
“Information obtained while illegally spying on Assange in the embassy which provided him with asylum for seven years was sent not only to the CIA, but also the Eastern District Court of Virginia, where Assange is supposed to receive a “fair” trial,” she added.

“The US and UK are treating Assange like mafia organizations would, rather than like democracies,” said Harlos. Journalism is not supposed to be a crime – but it is rapidly becoming one, regardless of the Bill of Rights. Anyone who values their freedom needs to stand up for Julian Assange now.”
Christian explained that average citizens need to know what their governments are doing in the darkness.
“People who expose the government’s shameful and dirty deeds are heroes – not villains,” she said.
“Liberty suffers in darkness. It flourishes when brave individuals stand up to shine bright spotlights on unconstitutional and illegal government activities,” said Harlos. “Whistleblowers and informants must be fully protected by the law and the justice system.”
The decision of the UK court makes the UK and US governments full partners in their illegal assault on the basic human and Constitutional rights of Julian Assange and freedom of the press.
The Libertarian Party of Colorado and Denver Action to Free Assange together call upon the Colorado Legislature and Governor Polis to declare Colorado a “Sanctuary State” for Julian Assange and to protect him from federal bureaucrats with badges, should he be found here.
