Rent, Property Rights, and Theft

WHEREAS, the Libertarian Party of Colorado supports the free market and therefore free trade among individuals;
WHEREAS, while free trade may include co-ops and resource pooling, it must always be voluntary;
WHEREAS, the Libertarian Party of Colorado strongly supports the rights of individuals to own private property including land and housing;
WHEREAS, the Libertarian Party of Colorado supports the rights of individuals to engage in contractual agreements of their own free will, including real estate rental contracts;
WHEREAS, ownership of private property, including land and housing, does not require continual and personal use to exist as justly owned property;
WHEREAS, these have been part of the principles of the Libertarian Party since its founding;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, rent is not theft, and owners of land and housing have the right to retrieval of said property and other damages if voluntary contractual agreements are breached.
