I had the honor of speaking at the Denver Tax Day Tea Party on April 15. The Libertarian Party of Colorado had a strong presence. Our nominee for the Sixth US Congressional District, Rob McNealy, emceed the event and several other registered Libertarians addressed the crowd.
On April 27, I attended the Jefferson County Libertarian Party affiliate meeting, where we discussed outreach opportunities, including a May 17 voter registration drive at the Jefferson County Courthouse (AKA the Taj Mahal), Taste of the West on May 6, and the Boulder Creek Festival. Chair Dan Sallis said he collected 29 voter registrations at the 4/20 marijuana rally. Bud Martin discussed his campaign for House District 27 and showed us his campaign hat and business cards. He also plans to use magnetic signs for cars to promote his campaign.
We decided to place an advertisement in the Libertarian Party of Colorado newsletter to recruit a new Jefferson County Libertarian Party outreach director. We discussed hosting a Libertarian Open House in Jefferson County. Sallis said he would like to give his "Know Your Rights" presentation on college campuses statewide. Sallis said that he would like to give a presentation at the Colorado School of Mines to help develop and promote a campus Libertarian affiliate there. I provided Sallis with contact information for a potential School of Mines libertarian activist.
On April 28, at a well-attended Libertarian Open House in Fort Collins, I spoke to several activists who are ready to get involved (or more involved) on the state, county and CSU campus levels. I plan to follow-up with them to find the best ways we can work together to spread the word.
The Affiliate Representative Committee Meeting has been rescheduled for May 10 at 5:45PM at LPHQ. Ryan Gaunt will give a presentation about his goals for outreach in relation to affiliate growth.
This election cycle, the Libertarian Party of Colorado, for the first time in its history, is having a state wide primary.
Approximately 3/4 of all Colorado counties will conduct a mail in ballot for the August 10th primary.
If you haven't already done so, change your voter registration to "Libertarian" so that you can participate.
Below are the candidates that will be working to bring the message of
individual freedom and limited government to over three million Colorado
voters. Please support these candidates in every way, and as much as you
can.

With May 12th rapidly approaching, there are only a few days left in this session for the Colorado General Assembly. As of May 1, 2010, 642 Bills (430 House and 212 Senate) have been introduced for changes to the Colorado Revised Statutes. This is about normal for each session. To date 197 have passed and received the Governor's signature and 153 have been killed. You can readily access the wealth of information about the current (as well as past) Bills at: http://www.leg.state.co.us/.
Also, I try to keep track of current status with a spreadsheed that you can access on the Libertarian Party of Colorado website at: http://lpcolorado.org/legislative/2010ColoBillStatus.xls. Each Bill has some impact or effect on our freedoms and/or pocketbooks.
Please forward this information to friends and family who are concerned about defending our freedoms!
I'm pleased to report that the media coverage of our convention was excellent. Since the last newsletter, a few additional articles have been released covering our convention, our candidates and our August primaries. For our candidates, I would like you to consider advertising your campaign through the Colorado Press Association. This group of writers and editors from Colorado newspapers has composed an informational packet about advertising opportunities in print media accross the state. As journalists, they are experts at understanding the role of print media in political campaigning, and will be able to provide you with valuable insight into print advertising. I encourage you to view these materials (in a 7MB PDF file) by clicking here and consider the rates.
I am also working with candidates on podcasts. Currently, I've arranged time with two of our candidates. Please email me for more information about recording podcasts about yourselves as candidates and your campaign platforms.
I have been reading the Denver Post letters to the editor on Fri/Sat/Sun for months. If a letter has a Libertarian theme, I check for the voter registration of that writer. If not Libertarian and I can find the address of the person, I mail a short cover letter and an Libertarian Party pamphlet to them. I usually mail out 1 or 2 a week.
I am calling Libertarians in Denver County and focusing on the people with whom I only left a message the first time through. John Finger is also calling in the El Paso County area. If you want to assist LPCO in gaining more Activist and Contribution support in your county, contact me at membershipdirector@lpcolorado.org. I have an easy 4 question script and use a Google Docs spreadsheet to log each voter's reply.
Candidates - Do you know who your contributors and activists are in your district? If not, contact me membershipdirector@lpcolorado.org
I have been focusing more on my Congressional candidacy for the last month and will strive to dovetail both the campaign and the Membership Director duties for the rest of 2010.
OPPORTUNITY to help liberty: Volunteer Coordinator for the Libertarian Party of Colorado.
This person will use their people skills to find, motivate, and guide the various volunteers
that contact the LPCO, matching the volunteer interests to the needs of the organization.
This is a volunteer position for a political party that has a Board of Directors
that is committed, interesting, and active in the community.
A one year commitment with an average of 4-6 hours per week is needed.
Please contact membershipdirector@lpcolorado.org with interest and questions

We have increased our Membership to nearly 12,000 members. Still, there are only Thirty Four 1776 Club Members.
Please join these 34 dedicated individuals who help Coloradans hear the vigilant voice of liberty. With their support, Libertarians have ballot access, basic support for local Libertarian Candidates, rent, utilities, outreach/education for Colorado Voters.
Any amount helps. If we can do this much for free, what could we do with a positive budget? Please donate.
I have been laid up with some surgeries and things related, so things have
slowed down a little for me, but not that much!
We are still registering Libertarians in western Colorado, and I am excited
to see how many people have contacted me to ask what they can do to
volunteer. Here is what I suggest:
Look at the Libertarian Party of Colorado website at the candidates list. Find some of the
candidates closest to you and contact them to volunteer with their
campaigns. It is a truly learning and rewarding experience to be involved in
a real campaign. This experience alone will give you PLENTY of ideas of what
needs to be done for the future!
Go to www.cotaxreform.com and volunteer or donate. A $100 donation could
bring you back a five fold return in first year savings from proposition 101
alone! If you are tired of asking the government to reform itself, then help
us start TELLING them how it's going to be! Stand up for your right to
petition the government.
Do you have a Libertarian Party affiliate in your county? If you do, start attending
meetings. Guaranteed they need your help and input. If you don't, then
contact me about how to get one started.
Attend 3 random city council and/or county commissioner meetings. If
this doesn't get you motivated to do something, nothing will. You will be
absolutely amazed and appalled at what you learn in these meetings, and how
far away things really are from where you think they are, let alone where
you think they are supposed to be.
As always, I enjoy hearing from all of you, feel free to contact me or any
of the other board members, and help us in our fight for liberty!
